This course introduces researchers to oceanographic data management, including processing, preservation, visualization, and analysis of diverse datasets from observations and remote sensing. It emphasizes best practices and applications of well-managed data, with hands-on training in open-source tools. A special one-day fisheries module will cover data handling and statistical analysis of fisheries datasets, including practical exercises using open-source software.
Introduction to the metadata, formats, quality control.
Introduction to value added products, visualization of data.
Introduce key statistical concepts for ocean data analysis, including probability distributions, correlation, regression and exploratory data analysis.
Introduction to Open Source S/Ws for data analysis and visualization
Familiarize participants with fisheries data types and quality control, and provide hands-on training in R for data handling and visualization.
Early research students, Early career professionals working on Ocean science, and who wish to learn fundamentals of data management, as well as early career professionals and researchers in marine fisheries science who need to manage and analyze fisheries data.
